Virginia Trip - All in One Day!

Image
The weekend of 24th September has been the busiest weekend of my trip! I was at a baseball game on Saturday with Lucy's family which was an epic game - see my other post for this. After spending the night at Lucy's house, I was taken to my sponsor William's the next day in Washington DC as William planned and arranged meetings with a couple of places to visit as part of my job. The first thing we did is to drop Wendy (William's wife) off at their friend's house in Virginia.

Busy couple of days...

The 7th & 8th of September were the two most professional & productive days in my life! We had to get everything organized for the professional photographers to come in and take photos of the original products that belonged to the owners of the house and do a drone filming of the house!

Go Baltimore Orioles!

Image
On Saturday 24th of September, Lucy and her family took me to my very first baseball game in Baltimore and I LOVED it! Baltimore Orioles played against the Astros - it was a challenging game. Baltimore Orioles was ahead winning till the last round of the game where the Astros caught up and won the game by one point! It was such a fun day, thanks to Lucy and her family! When I arrived, I completely wanted to cheer them on so bad as I fully understood how the game worked as I have watched a couple of Baltimore games back home! Got to tell you, It was the best night I ever had - so much fun but boy, it was cold!!

Mount Clare Slaves Cabin

Image
After taking the weekend off recovering - I have been working and researching on Mount Clare Slave's Cabin. I am actually using the plans from Sotterley Plantation to help me visualise what Mount Clare had in the way of slave cabins. Reading and Investigating this floor plan of Sotterley Plantation's slave cabin was very interesting because there were no details about the place - no information about how tall it is, who built it etc, but it was in Chapter 11 of Back of the Big House book. The Architecture of Plantation Slavery by John Michael Vlach. After reading all this - I have started putting together a 3D rendered view of the slavery house to help visualise what Mount Clare had - it will take time but this is the start. I know that I still have to work on it, but I need to sit with my bosses and determine what exact research they have on this before I detail the building and put together a little slideshow of the slaves in it. Here's a little video on it... More post...

New Plan, New Design(s)

Image
Over the six weeks (I KNOW! 😊), I have been working in my apartment doing at least five different designs for Mount Clare, my goal is to complete this by the end of September month. Need to put together a video of the timeline with the plan and era date. I am working backwards on the years of Mount Clare because it makes more sense with the floor plan changes and keeping the same structure of the building. Design 1: 1908 Design 2: 1873 Design 3: 1798 Still working on it... Design 4: 1768 Design 5: 1765 Design 6: 1760 Design 7: 1754 Working on it - the building was a lot smaller then. A fire happened this time of the year.

Carol has been the best! She arranged a tour at Sotterley Plantation so I can get more ideas for Mount Clare and look at their slave's cabin because I was told that Mount Clare used to have a slaves cabin and now it's long gone!

Mini Holiday & boat ride.

The long weekend of 2nd September, I was invited to stay at one of the Dame who I met at happy hour a few weeks ago. Carol Gould and her husband Mark welcomed me into their beautiful home for the long weekend on Gibson Island. This island is so beautiful, all the houses are huge and stunning - it even has got its own harbour with all types of boats/yachts!! Their Beautiful Home! After arriving on the first day on Gibson Island, Carol gave me a quick short tour around one side of the island before heading back home to meet everyone and heading down to the harbour. But first, I wanted to check out my bedroom again - it was beautiful, so cosy and I had my own bathroom - I never stayed at someone's home with my own bathroom before. My bedroom...
