Virginia Trip - All in One Day!

The weekend of 24th September has been the busiest weekend of my trip! I was at a baseball game on Saturday with Lucy's family which was an epic game - see my other post for this.

After spending the night at Lucy's house, I was taken to my sponsor William's the next day in Washington DC as William planned and arranged meetings with a couple of places to visit as part of my job. The first thing we did is to drop Wendy (William's wife) off at their friend's house in Virginia.

Thomas Jefferson's Monticello

The first place we went to see it was Thomas Jefferson's Monticello house - it's the most beautiful house I have ever been in!

I was given a tour by an amazing guide Melissa who was aware that I was deaf and she knew every time we moved from different rooms, she would face me or stand in the best place for me to lip-read her! This was amazing for me and I have learnt so much!

Interior & Exterior Images of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello!

This house was so pretty, I loved the fact it has got colourful walls, a huge library and a huge sitting room with all the picture frames on the wall. Was told that the picture frames have ever only come down once to be cleaned.

The back of the house was even more beautiful because of the architecture and the details. I could not believe how it looked so similar to the white house! Mind you, we had an amazing view from the land of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello to the white house!!

Montpelier

This building was extra special for me because they had the slave's cabin built on land and I needed to know what they looked like for Mount Clare designs. We want to try and recreate all the slaves' cabins to tell the story of Mount Clare too.

The interior of this building was absolutely stunning because it was so colourful and the details were perfect! I was slightly jealous of the antique items they had in the house - most of them are originals and the rest are replicas of what they used to be.

We had a very nice tour by someone named Christine because I needed to know the history of it before heading onto the slave's cabins.

That was the highlight of our day - finding a lot about Monticello and Montpelier!
