Heading Home with delays...

Monday 7th November was the very last day of my trip - I was taken out for a wee trip before heading to the airport. My sponsor William came by Lucy's house to have a coffee then picked me up and took me out for the morning to Middleburg Virginia.


He first took me to another Historic House and garden site, Oatland Plantation to view the house and the slavery cabins - there was not much history in this place and at least we stopped by to look.

It's a cute area because they have a barn that has just been renovated and they are not focusing on the house at all! They are on a tight budget at the moment and they are not planning to do any work on the house because they said it's kind of upgraded!


Tight Schedule


William kindly took me to the check-in at Dulles Airport - to check in my two suitcases and guess what - I managed to weigh them perfectly! They both were at exact numbers - the large one was at 49LB and the small one was at 48LB, I had to reshuffle everything at Lucy's home before William came to pick me up!





Here's the fun part...

I boarded my Dulles flight on time to stop over at Newark/NY to change planes for Edinburgh. This flight had a long delay - we were supposed to take off at 5:45 pm but instead, we stayed on the runway for at least an hour before taking off to reach Newark/New York.


During this flight, I managed to keep myself calm by looking at the beautiful view of New York at nighttime...












I didn't make it to Edinburgh's flight in time because that flight left early due to traffic controls. Was kind of annoyed but anyways the airport customer service put me up for accommodation overnight - I was sceptical about this but I made it to and back from the hotel in one piece.


NOW I AM CURRENTLY WAITING ON MY PLANE HEADING HOME! I WILL BE REUNITED WITH MY FAMILY SOON!!!!!!

Made It Home!!! I am officially back home with my family, all unpacked - it was like the living room exploded with all of my things. But wanna laugh... my suitcase was full of books instead of bringing clothes home! I was so emotional when I got home as I wanted to be home after a couple of days of being at multiple airports. So lovely to be back in my own bed too! Even had a quiet, shy reaction from my dog as she wasn't sure who I was until I spoke to her again!

Travelling DaY

On 11th August, I left the UK for the biggest trip of my life to the USA - this is a huge step in my life because this time I am travelling on my own for two and half months. I know that I had to do this by myself someday and it's here! I arrived at Edinburgh Airport (EDI) at 10:30am, checked my suitcase and said 'See you later' to my amazing parents who made me cry at the airport! Thanks, Mum! (Love you!)😂 I am going to be missing my family so much including my wee baby cocker spaniel! 💕 I won't be returning home till the end of October. Whilst I was waiting at the airport, there were many changes about what was happening with the flight and gate. My flight was due at 12:30pm but with all the delays and gate changes, it was changed to 15:40pm but it came earlier than expected - so I stayed nearby where United Airlines originally boarded so that I didn't miss the flight. Road trip & New York again...

  On 24th October, it was an important day of my trip because my sponsor William made contact with a couple of places that I needed to see before I left the US and also I was honoured to meet the Exchange Committee chair & former president of the St Andrews Society of New York, Samuel Abernathy! Pennsbury Manor https://www.pennsburymanor.org/ Our first visit was to a house museum named 'Pennsbury Manor' because, before COVID, I first applied to work at this place for the scholarship before it was closed. I applied for The Keystone Internship - they were thrilled to have me working with them but it was all closed. I was looking forward to working with them a couple of years ago because I did so much research on them beforehand, and now before I came across here, they were not looking for an intern to work with them; that is why my sponsor found Mount Clare. During the visit to Pennsbury Manor, I introduced myself to the Director - Douglas Miller to seek some new client work
