Day 6: Mount Clare Mansion Visit!

 I got to start my first day of volunteering on 18th August 2022 at the MOST BEAUTIFUL(!) mansion I have ever seen! It's the oldest colonial-era structure in the City of Baltimore. This building is a Georgian-style architecture plantation house where it exhibits a somewhat five-part plan dated back to the 1700s.



When I first arrived, I was expecting this mansion to sit in the middle of nowhere like the buildings we have back home in Scotland - but this is right on the hill surrounded by Baltimore's other buildings.


Krista and Lucy gave me a tour around the place to get the feel of it before I started doing some design work for them - they needed a good few things from me and I had some great ideas for them 😊.

We had some discussion about what they would like me to do for them, I have a list of things and I will gradually work my way through them...


Here are some of the things they would like to do:

  • 3D Rendering of 5 different layouts of the house

  • Urban Plan

  • Overlays of the city with the Mansion on it

  • Drawings of the Ironworks, stable etc.


Years ago, someone has recreated a 3D model of the house to envision what it would've looked like in the development of adding extension along with the foundations. This will be showing what it would've been like all the way back to the 1700s! They have done an amazing job on it - can tell they're so much better than me on this! 😂



And finally, photos of the ground floor interior: did not have time to go up but I will try again next time.


Again, they have been so nice to me and welcomed me to the most beautiful mansion in the City of Baltimore.

I was given a bag full of Mount Clare Mansion's merchandise! I was not expecting to have this much stuff!! I was so grateful when they gave me this!

I got mugs, books, a Christmas ornament, postcards, a keyring, a fridge magnet and the bag itself. Question is... How am I going to get them home back to Scotland?!

Day 9, 10 & 11: Taking Time to Myself

  Those last few days, I have been taking some time for myself and started working on the 3D Design project for Mount Clare House. It took me a while to get my thinking around the plans because I was told that the plans were wrong by the architects and I had to make sure they would be correct before sending them to Lucy and Kritsa. This is the set of floor plans that I was given... Front View Rear View As you can see that the plans are not accurate at all! I had to research the online website of Mount Clare, the book and my images to see if everything is in place?! As well as using old historic photos and drawings of Mount Clare So I have been doing this for three days because I wanted to get started on the first designs out of 5 different building layouts. This is number one: On Day 11, it was again another one of my favourite days where I got to work with all the details of the house to put it all into this program... New York, New York! 🎶

  Hello everyone!! So sorry that I have been so quiet over the last couple of weeks as I have been busy working and taking multiple weekend trips! On the weekend of 16th October , my sponsor and his family invited and gave me a lifetime trip to NYC as part of their family trip - my sponsor wanted me to experience what NYC is like before I leave to return to the UK! The first night (16th) we arrived in New York by 1 pm, checked into our very posh hotel then went off for a walk through Central Park and went by our very first museum of the day! Central Park Central Park was absolutely stunning this fall! All the leaves turned into beautiful colours and the skyline of NYC is one of the best views you have ever seen in your life!! We walked around the park for maybe 30 mins or so, grabbed food then headed to The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the day before heading down to Broadway to see a show.
