Day 2: Another Day, Another Amazing Trip!
Lucy has kindly driven me to Arlington National Cemetery - it was the most beautiful cemetery ever! I was feeling emotional walking around this cemetery because I was blown away by how beautifully the gravestones are lined up and the fact they all even have the names on them with their symbols.
We had a good walk around visiting all the gravestones but we could not do all of them in one day, we have decided to come back one more time with the rest of Lucy's family before I head back to Scotland in October.
At the same cemetery, we visited Arlington House Robert E. Lee Memorial, which was another most beautiful marble building. We had a look around the interior of the main building then went to look inside all the slave's cabins - I was getting a wee bit emotional and felt so bad for all of those slaves living there.
Visiting the Arlington House has given me a range of ideas for Mount Clare House for Lucy and Krista!
Then before we left for Baltimore, we stopped by to see the Unkown Soldiers cemetery as I've always been so interested in this and I don't know why. I give my condolences to the unknown soldiers' families who do not know if their child or any relative was killed. The exhibition of the unknown soldiers was very interesting, with so many artefacts and statues, along with The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
I also saw the guard change at 12:30 p.m. in front of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
After that, Lucy kindly drove me to Baltimore to meet the most amazing woman named Krista. I will be working with Krista and Lucy at Mount Clare House Museum this coming week. At the moment, it was just getting me settled in a hotel for the weekend. I stayed at the most beautiful hotel until Monday the 15th before moving into my apartment where I will be staying until the end of October.
The Brexton Hotel is like the main hotel in Baltimore, it's super cute and has the most comfiest bed ever! Kind of jealous of America now as they have got really comfy beds! It was built in 1881 and was completely renovated in 2010 from traditional to a mix of traditional/modern.
